Expeditionsfahrzeuge: Postdampfer – Sofia

Beschreibung:

Zur vierten Expedition rüstete der schwedische Staat den stark gebauten, von Kapitän Freiherrn von Otter befehligten Postdampfer Sofia aus, der am 19. September 1868 bei 81°42′ nördliche Breite den bis dahin nördlichsten von einem Fahrzeug besuchten Punkt, erreichte. Durch diese Expeditionen wurde die Inselgruppe Spitzbergens näher untersucht.

 

Chronologischer Ablauf:

  • 19.07.1868 Die Expedition verlässt mit dem Dampfer Sofia den Hafen von Tromsø mit Ziel Bäreninsel
  • 21.07.1868 Die „Sofia“ erreicht die Bäreninsel
  • 26.07.1868 Die Expedition verlässt die Insel mit Kurs auf Spitzbergen
  • Mehrere Wochen Erkunden der Westküste, da die Ostküste vom Eis versperrt war
  • 30.08.1868 Abfahrt zu den Sieben Inseln, zuviel Eis verhinderte aber ein erreichen der Inseln.
  • 13.09.1868 Die Sofia erreicht die Amsterdam Inseln. Hier trafen sie ein norwegisches Kohleschiff, mit diesem Schiff fuhren die meisten Wissenschaftler zurück in die Heimat
  • Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld und Dr. Berggren unternehmen den Versuch mit der Sofia weiter nach Norden vorzudringen.
  • 19.09.1868 die Sofia erreicht – 81°42′ n.Br. (1)
  • 04.10.1968 Die Sofia wird von Eis beschädigt und bekommt ein Leck.
  • 05.10.1868 Das Schiff erreicht die Amsterdam Inseln und kam repariert werden
  • Rückfahrt nach Norwegen
  • 20.10.1868 Die Sofia läuft in den Hafen von Tromsø ein.

Die Bäreninsel hatte einmal ihren „Robinson“ auf dem Hochland der Insel lebte einmal ein Einsiedler – der Norweger ⇒Tobiesen (vor 1868)
