Die HMS Discovery verläst den Hafen von Gravesend.

20.05.1616

Die Dicovery ankert vor der Disko – Insel an der Ostküste Grönlands um noch einmal Proviant aufzunehmen.

30.05.1616

Die Expedition erreicht den nördlichsten Punkt – 73° n.Br. – den Punkt welchen John Davis 1587 an der Ostküste Grönlands erreicht hatte.

05.07.1616

Die Expedition erreicht ihren nördlichsten Punkt mit 77°45′ n.Br. an der grönländischen Westküste.

Auf dieser Fahrt entdeckte die Expedition unter anderem die Einfahrt von der Baffin Bay in den Smithsund.

Des weiteren entdecken sie den Jones- und den Lancastersund.

Es gelang ihnen die Kartierung der nördlichen Baffin Bay.

Er ist auf dem richtigen Weg. Aber er scheitert an der Meeresströmung, dem Eis und dem Skorbut.

Bei seiner Rückkehr erklärt er, dass das Passieren des nord-westlichen Seeweges als unmöglich betrachtet werden muss. Und daraufhin verschwindet die NW-Passage für zwei Jahrhunderte aus der Entdeckungsgeschichte.

Die Entdeckungen von dieser Fahrt wurden in England stark zensiert, um die Erkenntnisse geheim zuhalten, da sie wichtige Erkenntnisse über die Nordwestpassage enthielten.
